Annual Meeting Proposal Requests
Dear PPN Members,,
ASLA is accepting proposals for Annual Meeting sessions until January 10, 2007. We are accepting proposals now!!
Please consider submitting a proposal in concert with other members of your PPN. We’ll also be asking PPN members to review Annual Meeting proposals and forward the strongest ones to the Annual Meeting Steering Committee. We want to make sure that the Committee has a lot of sessions representing PPN areas to select from.

Why is it that a respected organization like ASLA does not pay speakers? Sure there is a token, but not nearly what it ought to be. I do a bit of speaking to other groups. I don't know what the going rate is for top shelf speakers, but I do know that it is standard practice to pay an honorarium plus travel and meals. Full conference attendance is normally included as well. Speakers are treated as professionals and as guests. I have never spoken at an ASLA meeting, so would hope speakers are treated well.
But the way ASLA approaches speakers is as if ASLA is doing the speakers a favor by allowing them to speak at a conference. It's difficult to find the information online, but I believe the compensation offered is something like $150 and a free one-day conference admission. No expense reimbursement is offered and a 1000-2000 word article is required. Unless I'm missing something, this is really insulting.
